The former is exclusively meant for personal networking, i.e. targeting the segment willing to build relationships more for leisure related activities, while the latter is meant exclusively for professional relationships. Both the networking portals have different objective and therefore their usage is quite different from each other, even if that means the same person is enrolled in the both. The personal face of a person can be witnessed from portals like facebook, and even (orkut), while the ones like and the recently launched Indian copycats are trying to build upon the databases of professionals across sectors and levels. There are some commonalities though especially when it comes to faking ones own profile. The registered audiences fake their real identity in personal networking portals to have some fun and sometimes with ulterior motives while the hidden identity in professional networking portals is only to hide ones shortcomings till that dream job is secured. Smart recruiters and other professional bodies have started to analyze the persona of individuals by understanding the personal and professional presentations and activities, both in a personal and professional portal.
