It was indeed a fasinating platform for IT and Management professionals to converge in the MECIT Conference, held in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman on the 22nd and 23rd of March 2011. The conference brought together a wide range of professionals from business organizations, educational fraternity, healthcare sector, entertainment, infotainment, tourism, agriculture and environnmental domain experts, not to forget the researchers from a cross section of industries. They deliberated for two days, i.e. 22nd and 23rd of March 2011 on the usage, evolution and charting out the future roadmap of Information Technology, playing the all important role of an enabler, across professions and industries. The proceedings included research papers, white papers, case studies, workshops, apart from keynote addresses from various experts. Yours truly, along with one of his very good friend-cum colleague presented a case study titled, “A Case Study on the Importance of Information and Communication Technology in the Indian Healthcare Sector”. In addition to knowing the latest in the field of IT, the role reversal of IT professionals, the new-age blending of Business/Management with Information Technology, it was indeed an honour to meet TEAM KNOWLEDGE OMAN, viz. www.knowledgeoman.com , where yours truly is a column coordinator and contributor since the last two years, apropos the commitment towards the society.Hearing one of the youth idol of the Sultanate of Oman, Tariq Al Barwani and meeting the team of www.knowledgeoman.com, i.e. Khalphan Al Mahrazy, Ms. Rym Aoudia and Ms. Su’aad was a great experience, especially when yours truly is part of the leading knowledge based portal of the Sultanate of Oman. The students, researchers and faculties could gather substantial takeaways from the two day conference as was witnessed from a hungry knowledge seeking audience. Stimulating virtual private network in virtual machines, NADST(New Arabic Document Summarization Techniques, Performance of Akshaya e-Centers, Face Recognition using Local Graph, Improvement of Fingerprint images using non-linear filtering schemes, web 2.0 applications in healthcare are few of the papers from a wide range of submissions received from different parts of the world, including the Sultanate of Oman.The curosity of the students were praiseworthy which indicates the leaders of tomorrow are indeed ready to take up the professional challenges and the roles therein so as to take this excellent nation forward.The arrangements by the organiser should be complimented as well;Kudos to Ms. Kakul and Company!
