OSOM 2012 concludes
The Business Studies Department of Ibra College of Technology (ICT) successfully completed Oman Symposium on Management 2012 (OSOM2012) on the 4th of March 2012 at its sprawling campus located in the picturesque Al Sharqiya region. The four month preparation meticulously planned and implemented by the college authorities in general and the business department in particular culminated with the gala event being a grand success for all the key knowledge related stakeholders in the Sultanate of Oman. Responding to the periodical press releases through the leading dailies in the Sultanate, knowledge portals and personal meetings, not to forget the presence in the social networking portals and micro-blogging, and online promotion of the event through the college website, OSOM2012 drew in a sizeable knowledge seeking prospects from all the nook and corner of the Sultanate, encompassing all knowledge driven domains and sectors. The successful completion was indeed an apt illustration of a modern day knowledge centric event management. To quote Sheikh Khalfan Al Aisery, Member State Council, GM, Prosper Management Consultancy, “I give a high five to the organizers for the professional conduct of the event starting from the introductory messages till its fruition through aggressive follow-up and effective planning on the basis of team work”.
The one day knowledge extravaganza started with the national anthem, followed by the verses from Holy Qur’an. The esteemed audience was welcomed by the College Dean, Dr. Khalid Abdulaziz Khalid Ambusaidi. The chief guest, Her Excellency, The Undersecretary, Ministry of Manpower, Dr. Muna bint Salim Al Jardaniya declared the event opened through the ceremonial click of the mouse, and followed it up with her motivating inaugural address. The key note addresses by Mr. Amer Al Matani, Dy CEO, Oman-LNG, Sur and Dr. Fouzi Abdul Raheem Ghribah, Vice Chancellor, Al Sharqiya University, on the significance of such workshops in enhancing the Industry-Institute-Interaction and knowledge dissemination to all the knowledge seekers, set the ball rolling among the delegates and participants. The august audience comprising of academicians, academic administrators, students and industry executives were then illuminated with twelve empirical and conceptual research papers on the themes of “The role of entrepreneurship in the growth and development of Oman” and “People Management in Oman: Opportunities and Challenges”, chaired by Sheikh Salah Al Mawali, DG, SME, Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Mr. Mohammed Al Gheilani, GM-HR, Mohsin Haider Darwish, respectively. The two keynote addresses on the aforesaid topics just before the onset of the paper presentations by Mr. Mohammed Khamis Al Husseini, Director Economic Research, OCCI and Mr. Muhannad Al Asfoor, Senior HR Expert, Omantel, were the perfect precursors for the audience to get into a knowledge receptive mode.
The Post-lunch happenings
The marathon deliberations on the vivid topics burnt the calories of the audience who were then served a sumptuous lunch followed by the prayer. The post lunch drowsiness often seen in conferences and symposia metamorphosed into a stimulating and knowledge enriching session of panel discussion on “How can the Colleges of Technology and the Industry Cooperate to Produce Competent Graduates” by the prestigious panelists comprising of the chair, Dr. Abdul Hakeem Al Ismaily, DG, Technical Education, Ministry of Manpower and experienced heavyweights from industry and academia like Mr. Amer Al Matani, Dy CEO, Oman LNG, Sur, Sheikh Salah Al Mawali, DG, SME, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Mohammed Al Gheilani, GM-HR, Mohsin Haider Darwish, Mr. Mohammed Khamis Al Husseini, Director, Economic Research, OCCI, Mr. Saleh Al Khamyasi, HR Manager, The Wave Muscat and Mr. Muhannad Al Asfoor, Senior HR expert, Omantel. The session was moderated by the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, Ibra College of Technology, Mr. Hafedh Al Rahbi. The audience comprising of academic administrators, academicians and industry chieftains participated in the deliberations thereby providing lot of insights, perspectives and food for thought for all concerned. The panel discussion served as the right knowledge appetizer as they were then exposed to a series of twelve thought-provoking empirical and conceptual papers on the topics related to “Education and its role in Economic Development” and “Identifying Key Sectors for Growth in Oman”. The sessions were preceded by stimulating key note addresses by Professor Steven Hill-Dean, Collegeof Business, SoharUniversityand Mr. Tariq Al-Barwani, Founder and President, www.knowledgeoman.com . The sessions were chaired by Dr. Nabeel Al Bizreh, Technical Education Expert at Ministry of Manpower and Former Dean of ICT and Sheikh Khalfan Al Aisery-Member State Council, GM Prosper Management Consultancy respectively.
Valedictory and Closing
Curtains came down on the knowledge glitterati with Sheikh Khalfan Al Aisery-Member State Council, GM Prosper Management Consultancy delivering the valedictory address, video cum musical recap of the days events, certificate distribution to the paper presenters at the august hands of Dr. Abdul Hakeem Al Ismaily, DG, Technical Education, Ministry of Manpower, Dr. Khalid Abdulaziz Khalid Ambusaidi, College Dean, ICT, Mr. Hafedh Al Rahbi, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, ICT, and Prof. Abdul Jaleel, Symposium director and Head- Department of Business Studies. Assistant Dean for Administrative and Financial Affairs, ICT, Mrs. Ghadna Al Maskary presented the wrap-up, followed by the vote of thanks proposed by Prof. Abdul Jaleel, Symposium director and Head- Department of Business Studies, ICT. The audience went back with mindful of takeaways pertaining to “An awesome experience in knowledge sharing” with the motto of “Inspiring Oman towards new horizons of growth”, the underlying objective of the knowledge get-together, OSOM 2012!
