Knowledge knows no barriers! Information era has led to e-everything. The transformation from a conventional world to a more open world has culminated in everything being available in the public domain. Open learning has already gathered momentum globally, although there is a yawning gap existing in this domain, whenever, the developed world is compared against the developing world. To bridge that difference, Arab Open University, Kuwait, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al Sabah, The Amir of the State of Kuwait, in cooperation with Redsoft Regional Center for Development of Educational Software, National Bank of Kuwait, Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, Kuwait Foundation for Advancement of Sciences, Kuwait Airways, The Open UK University, conducted the 1st International Conference on Open Learning-Role, Challenges and Aspirations from 25th November 2013 to 27th November 2013 at the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, Kuwait and Radison Blue Hotel, Kuwait. The three day knowledge extravaganza had a host of eminent and globally acclaimed speakers, practitioners, experts representing the open learning arena, dwelling on topics encompassing, Techniques and Methods of Open Learning 1 and 2, New Learning Resources Requirement, International Trends and Experiences in Open Learning 1 and 2, Quality Assurance in Open Learning, Technology and Open Learning, Challenges associated with Quality Standards in Open Learning, The role of Open Learning in Growth and Development 1 and 2, Successful Experiences in Open Learning to name a few.
The conference received over 100 papers, out of which around 50 papers were accepted for presentation and publication. Yours truly, along with his old colleague cum friend, Mr. Syed Sadullah Hussainy, Lecturer, Business Studies, Arab Open University, Oman Chapter, presented the paper titled, “Compilation of REAL LIFE case-lets on the usage of Social Network in Business Management” under the sub-topic, Success Stories in Open Learning.
It is to put on record my Sincere Thanks and Gratitude to the Host and my employer, The College Administration and Business Studies Department Administration of the Ministry of Manpower, Sultanate of Oman managed Ibra College of Technology for providing me an opportunity to present and publish the paper in the larger interest of the teaching and learning community of the Sultanate of Oman and rest of the world.
