Oman Higher Education Conference 2015

Theme Entrepreneurship and Higher Education
Date 20-21 April 2015
Location Muscat – Sultanate of Oman

About The Conference

Under the patronage of Oman Ministry of Higher Education, OITE is pleased to announce its inaugural Oman Higher Education Summit themed: ‘Entrepreneurship and Higher Education’ from 20-21 April 2015 in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman which is held concurrently with GHEDEX Exhibition.

With increasing number of graduates entering the job market, the industry is finding it challenging to keep the pace. The economy is also witnessing trends towards diversification and reducing its’ over dependence on the oil and gas sector. Ultimately both the public and private sector have limitations in creating the required number of jobs. Entrepreneurship is thus the solution towards larger agenda of economic diversification along with job creation and reducing the burden on job-market by encouraging young graduates to take the path less followed- that of entrepreneurship.

Higher Education plays a pivotal role in introducing students to the concept of entrepreneurship and then nurturing students to develop their capabilities. Educationist thus have a vibrant role in engaging students and leading them on this path through self-discovery. With this aim GHEDEX 2015 conference seeks to create a platform for educators along with other stakeholders to brainstorm, assess course curriculum, teaching design and methodologies towards inculcating as well as training the youth to be the next job creators.

Overview

The conference would be held across 2 days with the objective of empowering educator’s with the updates in learning and teaching methodologies towards enabling them to stimulate entrepreneurship amongst their students. The impact of entrepreneurship education could be assessed on four dimensions: 1) the acquisition of the entrepreneurial competence 2) intentions towards entrepreneurship; 3) employability; and 4) impact on the society and on the economy. From past studies we do widely accept that inculcating entrepreneurship in education has positive impact on attitude creation along with skills development required for starting enterprises or even being a more innovative employee in a firm.

GHEDEX 2015 will help higher education policy makers and institutional leaders see how to maximize the added value of the student experience.
